A group of young basketball players, both boys and girls, are posing together on a basketball court with a blue and white team uniform.

Athletics are an extension of our mission to develop students academically, spiritually, and socially. That mission is on full display with our 4th through 6th grade boys basketball team.

Coach Charlie Velasquez is focused on helping players learn the game the right way while growing together as a team. Students are building character off the court that directly impacts how they play on it.

After games, players watch film together to learn and improve. They pray as a team, encourage one another, and work intentionally together, using their abilities to praise God and support each other.

This season has already been filled with exciting moments, including a recent tournament in Melbourne and anticipation for an upcoming tournament in Doral. With each game, students are growing in accountability and confidence as Coach Charlie challenges them to learn from mistakes while also building them up with positive encouragement.

The team continues to grow through bonding experiences like team breakfasts, watching basketball together, and an upcoming escape room outing. These moments help strengthen relationships and build trust, turning a group of players into a true team.

Assistant Coach Ally Platzer has also played an important role in supporting the team and reinforcing the values of teamwork and leadership. From the coaches’ perspective, what stands out most is how genuinely the boys care for one another and play selflessly.

At DSA, students come to be part of something bigger than themselves. Through basketball, these young athletes are growing not only as players, but as leaders who understand teamwork, responsibility, and faith.
